Makowiec (Poppy Seed Roll)

I collaged and painted a sliced makowiec (Polish poppy seed roll) on parchment paper set against an abstract field of poppy flowers to evoke the origin of the hero ingredient as well as the materiality and sense memory of how this cake is prepared: these yeasty rolls enter the oven wrapped in parchment paper to help keep their shape and prevent over-browning.
